Oma & Opa moved to Canada from Holland in 1952. They finally settled in Maple Ridge and opened Triple Tree Nursery in 1962. Dad, (Nico) was 14. Dad worked there until 1976 when, with his brother, they purchased the garden centre from their parents. In 1986 Dad and Uncle Tom with 5 other garden centre owners, started Nurseryland, a buying group to try and buy together to lower prices and find new, cool suppliers.
1997 was the year Mom, (Patricia), and Dad decided it was time to move for a different way of living and more of a country, small town atmosphere. They settled in the beautiful Shuswap and together opened Nico's Nurseryland on April 4, 1998 in Salmon Arm, BC. Mom & Dad moved to Sorrento, BC and their daughter, Maaike moved to Salmon Arm, BC. Their son, Marty stayed a while on the coast finishing education at Kwantlen University College in Langley.
In 2001 the whole family was together working on building Nico's into a successful garden centre. In 2004 we expanded, and opened our second "Nico's" in Blind Bay, BC. Once we started using the Blind Bay location to grow our own product in 2008, we knew we would soon out grow the location on Fairway Hills Rd. In 2015 we expanded on that Blind Bay store and moved it across the highway on Greer Rd, adding 3 new greenhouses while offering a larger parking lot for our valued customers.
Today we are the largest garden centre in the Shuswap, growing most of our own veggie starts, Hanging Gardens, and Bedding Plants. We sell some of the most interesting shrubs and trees from the far corners of the world. We pride ourselves in first class customer service with top notch staff to help you select the right plants for the right spots in your garden. We hope to see you soon at either Nico's location.
